Latest Updates from Our Project:

Final Days of the War
over 5 years ago – Sun, Dec 09, 2018 at 10:57:47 PM

Tormenta is ready, and the Chorister Fleet is about to fall.

Since our last update, we have funded an adventure from Jacqueline Bryk, an expansion to explore the alien Precursors, and a narrated introduction to the game. In these two final days of the campaign, we have three more stretch goals in our sights and I hope you will help us reach them.

At 400 backers, we will get a series of new settlement maps produced by Damien Holder for the game. He created the brilliant map found on the campaign page, and I want more of his work for us all.

At 450 backers, we will create three additional settlements off-world, if you want to play games in the Oort Line, the Long Fall plateau, or Sargasso.

At 500 backers, we will hire Frances Rowat as an associate editor on the project who will help make the text sing with her editorial polish. Join us, tell your friends, and spread the word!

Stretch Goal 3 - Covenant Yard and other Adventures
over 5 years ago – Sat, Dec 01, 2018 at 06:09:55 PM

Over the last week, the kickstarter campaign for After the War has been going remarkably and we have blown past several stretch goals!

We blew past our first stretch goal which we announced last week. We are already hard at work and writing up the various Strange Gifts that characters can access. We already have some cybernetics text ready, and have the outline on how the other abilities will function.

After that, we reached our second stretch goal, the AI Song Archive! This means that all of you fine folks will gain access to a soundtrack generated by an artificial intelligence which has been carefully curated for your enjoyment.

If we hit out 300th backer, we will unlock the Covenant Yard Adventure, from Jacqueline Bryk!

Since I am certain that we will reach our 3rd stretch goal quickly, here is a sneak peek at our next goal!

At 325 Backers, we will expand the book and explore the Precursors. They are the original architects of the Alexandria Archive, and those who last encountered The Song. Alasdair Stuart will tell us more about those who camp before, and perhaps even reveal information about how the Song was created…

If you want to reach these goals, the best way is to tell a friend! Every single backer for the kickstarter contributes towards these stretch goals. Let folks know they can pick up hardcover books or PDFs. Let your friendly retail game store know they can back the campaign for a dollar. Let’s make some noise!

Funded and Stretch Goal 1
over 5 years ago – Sat, Nov 24, 2018 at 03:59:23 PM

Funded!

Thank you all for helping us exceed our original funding goal for the campaign!  we are excited to go even further. That’s why we have a number of brilliant stretch goals lined up, offering some small ways we can make the game even better for all of us. All of our goals are based on the number of backers, not the dollar value, so every friend you bring over is another step closer to the next goal.

At 250 Backers, we will expand the book to include discussion on strange gifts that are sometimes rumoured in the dark corners of settlements. We will explain how cybernetics, psionic gifts, mysticism, tormenta mutations, and songcraft can be used in play.

Spread the word and invite some friends to join us!

Recordings from Earth

Hello everyone, and thank you very much for your continued support for After the War. Alasdair and I have been working for several years on the project and are overjoyed that so many of you have joined us on this journey. We have nearly reached our funding goal, and I have a number of potential stretch goals beyond that.

During the first half to the campaign, I have been fortunate enough to discuss the project on a number of excellent podcasts and run some actual play sessions. Alasdair has been writing some brilliant articles, and we wanted to share these with you fine folks.

On the RPG Design Panelcast, I discussed community mechanics in games with the excellent Phil Vecchione. We explored this exciting area of design where we discuss what communities and settlements bring to games, the stories they let us tell, and the mechanics which represent them.

On The Lounge podcast, we discussed how I design games and explored some of the core design principles behind After The War.

On the Curiosity in Focus podcast, Daniel Kwan interviewed me to discuss speculative zoology and fictional ecologies. This was a wide-ranging discussion that covered off everything from artificial ecosystems to real-world conservation biology.

On the Victory Condition Gaming youtube chanel, I was invited to run a session of After the War and have a recording to share with you folks to enjoy.

I was also lucky enough to run a session and record an AP for the Oneshot Podcast. Part 1 of the session explores how we can create Polvo together, and start to play. The next episode should go up on Monday.

Meanwhile, Alasdair has been hard at work writing some essays about elements of the game. He explores the various inspirations and the dramatic tensions that underlie the

In his first essay, titled Starfleet's Worst Day he discusses some of the science fiction inspirations for the game. In his second essay, titled Hope and Horror, he explores those two dramatic poles of hope and horror and the interplay between them.

Now that you have podcasts, videos, and essays at your disposal, let’s blow past that initial goal. Let us explore this new world together.

Hello Everyone!

We are two days into the campaign and I am extremely pleased to see that we are already more than halfway to our goal for After the War. Alasdair Stuart and I have been developing this project for years, and we are overjoyed to see that it's resonating with you fine folks.

For your information, I have reduced some of the price points for the higher tiers to make them more affordable. This means that you may be interested in taking a look at some of the other options which include additional books, PDFs for your group, dice sets, or even a custom portrait from Claudia Cangini.

I’m excited to see us make some noise, recruit some new folks to our settlement, and hit our goal. Let’s make this happen!
